10 minutes with your team
For coaches, PE teachers, captains and school councils.
How the session runs
- 1 minSet it up. Explain that the moment is fictional and nobody will be asked about their own experiences.
- 4 minPlay one round together. Open Your next move on a screen. Let the group vote, then read the feedback aloud.
- 4 minTalk it through. Use the three questions on the sheet below. Keep it about what a teammate can do.
- 1 minAgree one thing. Read the team card out loud and show everyone where to find the support page.
Before you start
- Tell your club’s welfare officer or the school’s safeguarding lead that you’re running the session.
- Don’t ask anyone to share their own story, and don’t ask about anyone’s identity.
- If someone tells you about something that happened, listen, thank them and follow your organisation’s safeguarding policy. Don’t promise to keep it secret.
- Let anyone step out without needing to explain why.
Speak Up Play On: team sheet
The moment (fictional): a spectator directs racist abuse at a teammate. They look upset and want to leave.
- What does our teammate need from us in the first minute?
- Who at our club or school should we bring in, and how do we reach them?
- What could we say if we heard something like this in our own team chat?
One thing our team will do:
Support: speak-up-play-on.pages.dev/support.html In danger? Contact local emergency services or a trusted adult.
The team card
Read it together at the end, put it on the dressing-room wall, or share it. It names no incident, person or school.
On this team, everyone plays.
If someone is targeted, we check they’re OK, we bring in an adult, and we don’t make them carry it alone.
